Foreword

Textiles are some of the oldest materials formed by human hands.
Textiles are old,
Textiles are commonplace,
Textile art is rare.
I am a textile artist. I has been involved with textiles since a very early age. Later also as a costume designer. Costume design concerns itself with the human image through the medium of textiles. With the clothed human image. But I wanted to say something about the most precious human covering: the skin. What do skin and textiles have in common?

Textiles clothe and accompany US throughout our lives. The skin is not distant, like a glance, but lives in the continual, intimate interplay of touch. The sensuousness of wanting to look at but also touch material was something I did not just want to express but also to take as my theme.

The skin is a living material, from which many dreams are made.

Although everyone has a skin, it is still our most personal and delicate piece of clothing.
It is not easy to protect it, especially if we claim that human dignity is inviolable; for our protective covering needs to be touched.

The skin lives on tactile contact.

My field of artistic research is the skin.
